SPRINGFIELD, OH - The 10th-ranked Calvin women's volleyball team advanced to the second round of the NCAA III Tournament with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-14 first round victory over Otterbein College Thursday afternoon on the campus of Wittenberg University. Playing in its 20th NCAA III Tournament including its seventh straight, Calvin used strong blocking to stymie Otterbein's offensive attack.

Calvin finished with 15 total blocks including three solos from freshman Megan Rietema and two solos from junior Rebecca Kamp. Otterbein finished with a -.044 hitting percentage while Calvin hit at a .342 clip. Making their first-ever NCAA III Tournament appearance, the Cardinals (26-7) were able to hang around early however as Calvin committed an uncharacteristic 14 service errors in the match including 11 in the first two sets.

Calvin cut down on its errors in the third set, hitting .500 over the final frame to close out the win. Sophomore Lizzie Kamp and Rebecca Kamp finished with 10 kills apiece while Rietema had 24 assists. Junior libero Carolyn Nelson had seven digs and Lizzie Kamp eight digs.

With the win, Calvin advances to the second round to face either Heidelberg or Greenville College at 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon at Wittenberg's Pam Evans Smith Arena.
