No. 3 USC sweeps by Clemson
Jupiter’s match-high 18 kills lead Trojans to easy victory
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Senior All-America outside hitter Alex Jupiter continued a strong weekend Sunday after posting 18 kills and seven digs as No. 3 Southern California swept Clemson 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-13) in a non-conference match. Jupiter hit .325 in the match while junior outside hitter Katie Fuller added eight kills while hitting .412 for the Trojans.
USC improved its record to 4-2 on the campaign. Lauren Williams contributed seven kills while hitting .500 (7-1-12) while Kendall Bateman had 35 assists with six digs.
Sandra Adeleye led Clemson (4-2) with seven kills, but the Tigers hit just .050 for the match.
"We have faced adversity for the past two weeks in terms of the travel, but when you get a loss like Friday's (against UCF), you have a chance to create opportunities as a team," USC head coach Mick Haley said. "It gave our coaching staff a chance to get everyone's attention and focus on our intensity. Today was our best match of the weekend. I thought we were really good at the end of the third set."
With the USC lead at 15-13 in the first set, the Trojans used two aces from Fuller as part of a six-point run with Jupiter later giving them a 1-0 lead in the match. Jupiter contributed four kills during a pivotal 6-1 run while freshman Emily Young recorded a kill to secure the second set. In the third set, the Women of Troy used an 11-4 run to break away from a 4-4 tie and helped put the match away.
