Randolph-Macon enters second round
After defeating Johns Hopkins, Yellow Jackets will play Saturday
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Randolph-Macon team advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament with a 3-1 victory against Johns Hopkins on Friday.
The Yellow Jackets improve to 24-5, while JHU ends the season 25-5. Randolph-Macon will take on either Emory or Richard Stockton in second-round action at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday at Christopher Newport University.
Mallory Carter led R-MC with 18 kills. Tori Puryear had 10 kills, while Jessica Sears had eight and Hillary Jessee chipped in with seven. Bailey Troia directed the offense with 45 assists.
Defensively, Marli Dabareiner had 23 digs and Sears had 20. Carter also had 15 digs, while Joelle Gross had seven stops.
The Yellow Jackets hit .417 in the first game to take a 25-16 decision. They followed that with a 25-18 win in game two. R-MC had a lead late in game three, but the Blue Jays rallied to win 26-24. R-MC would close out the match with a 25-21 win in game four.
