WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- Bridgeport advanced to the semifinals of the East Regional being hosted by the University of New Haven on Thursday afternoon with a 3-0 victory against NYIT. 

With the win, Bridgeport continues its season with a 29-7 record, and the Bears end 2011 with a 19-9 mark.

Freshmen Biljana Savic and Larissa Oliveira led the UB offense with 14 and 12 kills respectively.  Oliveira hit .732 for the match and also added five block assists.

As a team, Bridgeport hit .389; while NYIT hit .189.

UB setter Tamara Leite had 30 assists and added six digs for the winners.

Senor Fernanda Costa led the Purple Knights with eight digs,

UB advances to the regional semifinals at 5 p.m. ET Friday where they will face the winner of the match between Dowling and Caldwell.
