HOLLAND, MI – After splitting two matches Friday at the Midwest Invitational hosted by Hope, Calvin volleyball team bounced back and swept a pair of matches on Saturday. The Knights first defeated Dominican 3-1 by scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-18 and then topped No. 17 Wisconsin-Whitewater 19-25, 25-22, 29-27, 25-17.

In the win against Dominican, Calvin was led by senior Lizzie Kamp with 15 kills. Maggie Kamp added 10 kills and sophomore Emily Crowe had nine of her own. Junior setter Megan Rietema dished out 49 assists in the four sets.

The Knights were fueled by the block in their second match against Wisconsin-Whitewater. Senior Rebecca Ratkov had a huge game, assisting in seven blocks on top of her four kills. Junior Megan Rietema had 37 assists and six block assists, while senior Julia Hilbrands had five kills and four block assists.

Although Calvin only had 37 kills in the four sets, they scrapped their way to a come-from-behind win.

“We didn’t play our best volleyball today but we fought really hard and beat two very good teams,” Calvin head coach Amber Warners said.  “We never really got into a flow throughout the day, but fortunately we battled and got two important wins.”

The Knights improved to (21-2, 11-0 MIAA). Calvin has now reached the 20-win plateau for 18 consecutive years.
