MORAGA, Calif. -- It was another epic match between West Coast Conference powers on Saturday afternoon as Saint Mary's defeated No. 13 San Diego 25-22, 23-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-13 in McKeon Pavilion. The Gaels handed the Toreros their first conference loss of the season.

With the win, Saint Mary's improves to 11-9, 6-3 WCC, while San Diego drops to 17-3, 9-1 WCC.

Saint Mary's was led by Gabby Jolly with 18 kills while Jordan Shaw finished with 14 kills and 16 digs. Kristina Graven added 13 kills and 13 digs while Lauren Corp finished with 10 kills on .300 hitting.

Missy White recorded 35 assists and four of SMC's 10 aces, while Dalas Dodd had 22 assists and Sarah Reams finished with 16 digs.

San Diego was led by Sandra Lozic with 21 kills while Carrie Baird added 13 kills. Kandiss Anderson had a match-high 26 digs.

The Toreros outhit the Gaels .308 - .258 for the match, but the Gaels kept the blocking game close with 11 blocks compared to USD's 13. SMC served up 10 aces compared to just three by USD.

There were a total of 30 ties in the match and nine lead changes. Four lead changes occurred in the intense fifth set of the match.

In the fifth set, the Toreros grabbed a 9-6 lead and sent the pressure to the Gaels. SMC would trail 10-7, before a White service run pulled the Gaels even at 11-11. The Gaels would add two more points and lead 13-11 after a block by Jolly and Corp, and a Corp kill. USD came back to tie it up at 13-13, before USD committed a service error to give SMC match point. The Gaels did not wait long to capture the match as White set up Graven for the match ending kill at 15-13.
