THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Fresh off moving up to No. 4 in the national rankings, Cal Lutheran got 18 kills from Kylie McLogan and swept Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) foe La Verne 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-18) Tuesday night.
The Regals trailed for significant portions in each set but held La Verne to just a .099 attacking percentage. With the win, Cal Lutheran improves to 18-1 overall which ties its best start to a season in eight years.
No. 5 Emory 3, Lee 0
ATLANTA -- Emory captured its 12th conseuctive victory on Tuesday evening when it returned home to defeat Lee. The Eagles raised their overall record to 22-1 following a 3-0 verdict (25-17, 25-23, 25-19) against the Flames who slipped to 6-5.
Emory hit .337 (43-9—101) for the match compared to Lee's mark of .111 (36-24—108). It represented the Eagles fifth consecutive and 10th time in the last 12 matches that they had finished with an effort of .300 or higher.
Junior Leah Jacobs was the lone Emory player to finish in double figures with 10 kills while classmate Kate Bowman contributed nine terminations and 10 digs.
Freshman Jessica Holler concluded the contest with a .412 attack percentage (9-2—17) and paced the squad with four total blocks. Sophomore Sydney Miles doled out 32 assists and sophomore Taylor Erwin led all players with 15 digs.
No. 6 Elmhurst 3, Augustana (S.D.) 0
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- Elmhurst, ranked sixth in the latest AVCA coaches' poll, remained unbeaten in CCIW play by defeating Augustana (S.D.) 26-24, 25-17, 25-17.
Elmhurst (21-2, 3-0 CCIW) struggled in the opening set, falling behind by as many as five points, before rattling off three consecutive points to take a 20-19 lead. Augustana (11-8, 1-1 CCIW) answered back with a 5-3 run to take a 24-23 lead. Elmhurst fought off a set point for the Vikings and then scored the next two points to take the first set 28-26.
The second set started similar to the first as Augustana opened up a 9-4 lead, before Elmhurst came roaring back. The Bluejays quickly raced past the Vikings and cruised to the second set 25-17. Elmhurst jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the third set and pulled away for the 25-17 victory to put the match away.
