No. 1 Calvin 3, Trine 0

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Calvin improved to 24-0 overall and to 12-0 in the MIAA with a 25-21, 25-13, 25-10 victory against the visiting Thunder of Trine on Tuesday night inside Van Noord Arena.

Ranked number-one in the country, Calvin hit .375 as a team and picked up steam as the match went along. Calvin hit .220 in set one but proceeded to hit .469 in set two and .522 in set three.

Sophomore Maggie Kamp had 13 kills, 12 digs and a hitting percentage of .478. Freshman Laura Danhoff had nine kills, three blocks and a .316 hitting percentage. Juniors Ellie Diepersloot and Emily Crowe had eight kills apiece.

No. 3 Cal Lutheran 3, Whittier 0

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- After defeating Whittier 3-0 (25-20, 27-25, 25-20) on Tuesday night, Cal Lutheran improved to 19-1 overall, its best start to a season since 2001.

Cal Lutheran would go on to lead by as many as seven at 17-10 before closing out the first set victory at 25-20.

Whittier had caught Cal Lutheran on its heels to open the second set, climbing out to a 7-6 lead. CLU moved ahead when Eason came up with a kill that earned her serve, and then put the Regals up 15-12 after back-to-back aces.

The Poets would increase their lead to 21-18 before Hannah Orlandi entered the game as a sub and made an immediate impact. Pua Mo’okini-Oliveira had a kill on the following point to get the teams even and then Orlandi had a back-court kill to give CLU its first lead since 4-2.

Cal Lutheran would commit to attacking error letting Whittier reclaim the lead and get to set-point at 24-22. Mo’okini-Oliveira had a roll shot on the next point and then Whittier suffered back-to-back attacking errors to give the lead back to CLU at 25-24. After the Poets tied it at 25-25, CLU won the set at 27-25 thanks to back-to-back kills from Eason and Mo’okini-Oliveira.

No. 9 Mount Union 3, John Carroll 1

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union defeated John Carroll 3-1 in an Ohio Athletic Conference match-up at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

With the win, the Purple Raiders improve to 23-3 overall and remain in first in the OAC at 4-0. The Blue Streaks fall to 14-8 overall and 2-2 in the OAC.

After the Raiders dropped the first set 25-19 to John Carroll, Mount Union charged back to defeat the Blue Streaks 25-15, 25-18 and 25-8.

The Raiders were led offensively by senior Taylor Webb who tallied 17 kills, junior Nicole Snyder notched 10 kills and as junior Mel Patterson chipped in with 10 kills. Junior Lauren Mastroine had 26 digs with Snyder at nine.

John Carroll was led by freshman Leah Switalski who notched 11 kills and as freshman Kit O'Shaughnessy tallied 25 assists. Sophomore Sara Kaminski led the Blue Streaks with 16 digs with freshman Katie Cosker at 10.
