No. 3 Cal Lutheran 3, Occidental 0

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -– No. 3 Cal Lutheran used 25-20, 25-19 and 25-18 wins to secure a 3-0 victory against Occidental in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play Tuesday inside the Gilbert Arena to sweep the season series with the Tigers.

Just as they have done all season, the Regals looked to everyone to contribute. Caitlin Fransen stepped up and put down five kills on seven swings, including last of the match, while Allie Eason led the attack with 12 kills. Both Jackie Russell and Jena Chavez set the ball well, finishing with 25 and 10 assists, respectively while Pua Mo’okini-Oliveira was solid serving with a trio of aces.

Defensively, CLU held Occidental players to a mere .089 hitting percentage as a team. Eason and Lauren Rohach each tallied a pair of block assists for the Violet and Gold and Nicki Tetherow filled the libero spot, recording nine digs to match Russell, one behind Eason’s team-leading 10, which gave the sophomore a double-double.

No. 6 Elmhurst, North Park

ELMHURST, Ill. -- Elmhurst, ranked fifth in the latest AVCA coaches' poll, improved to 25-4 overall and 5-0 in the CCIW with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-14 win against North Park.

After trailing 8-4 early in the first set, the Bluejays evened the score at 12-12 and then closed the set on a 13-5 run to take the opening set 25-17.

Elmhurst surged out to a 7-1 lead in the second set before North Park (9-16, 1-5 CCIW) battled back and took an 11-9 lead. The Bluejays answered back to take a 16-13 lead before North Park evened the score at 19-19. Elmhurst ripped off five consecutive points to take a 24-19 lead before winning the set 25-20.

The third set belonged to Elmhurst as the Bluejays used a 15-2 run to take a commanding 19-5 lead before coasting to the 25-14 victory.

No. 9 Mount Union 3, Muskingum 0

NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- Mount Union ranked ninth in the nation, defeated Muskingum 3-0 on Tuesday night in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup at the Recreation Center.

The Purple Raiders improve to 25-3 overall and 6-0 in the OAC as the Fighting Muskies fall to 10-13 and 1-5 in the OAC.

In the 25-19, 25-21, 25-16 sweep of the Muskies, the Raiders were led by junior Nicole Snyder who notched 12 kills and 10 digs. Junior Lauren Mastroine recorded 20 digs as freshman Allison Twining chipped in 11 kills.

Juniors Sarah Schleich and Brittany Woodard each tallied double digit assists as Schleich had 27 assists and Woodard had 14. Sophomore Kara Berger recorded four blocks for the Raiders.

Muskingum was led by Alexa Abrams who recorded 11 digs and 11 assists in the loss. Katie Hunt and Brooke Scott each notched nine kills as Hanna Rose recorded 11 digs. Kim Seitter tallied 19 digs as Kaleigh Hendrix dished out 16 assists.
