No. 3 UCLA Sinks No. 6 Arizona State In MPSF Opener

TEMPE, Ariz. The No. 6 Arizona State University water polo team lost 10-5 to No. 3 UCLA on Saturday in the teams home opener at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. The Sun Devils fall to 9-6, 0-1 in the MPSF, on the season with the loss.
Sophomore Nikki Unbehaun scored two goals to lead the ASU offense. She was joined in the scoring column with one goal each from juniors Jennifer Campo and Bonnie Miles and sophomore Sam Schubert.
Freshman goalie Dana Harvey collected eight saves. Junior goalie Taylor Greenberg played in the fourth quarter, her first career action as a Sun Devil.
UCLA jumped out to an early lead with two first-quarter goals by Tanya Gandy, but the Sun Devils rallied on goals by Unbehaun and Campo to tie the game at 2-2 early in the second. However, the Bruins would score twice more to take a 4-2 lead at the half. They stretched the lead to four by the end of the third quarter and to six in the fourth quarter before finishing off the 10-5 victory.
The Sun Devils will return to action next Saturday, hosting the nations No. 1 team, the Stanford Cardinal, in an MPSF match-up at noon at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
