Upper Iowa Athletics
The No. 10-ranked Upper Iowa Peacock wrestling team captured a team championship at the Citrus Open in Lauderdale by the Sea, Fla. Upper Iowa’s team title came thanks to four titles, a pair of runner-up finishes and a third-place finish.
The Peacock grapplers accumulated 174 points to lead the 14-team field. Augsburg placed second in the team race with 168 points, while Mount Union (151.5), Cornell (142) and Dubuque (105.5) rounded out the top five. The Peacocks won their title despite not having a wrestler in the 125-pound bracket.
UIU’s four titles came thanks to undefeated tournaments by Kyle Pedretti (133), Winston Robbins (157), Bryce Lumzy (165), and Zach Rosol (285). The two runner-up finishes came from Wade Gobin (174) and Mitch Schultz (184), while the third-place finish came at 197 pounds by Carl Broghammer.
J.R. Baker competed for the first time this season at 141 pounds and placed sixth, while Blake Hilmer (149) placed seventh. Arron Cramer (285) was the final Peacock to wrestle and posted a 1-1 record before an injury forced the Peacock heavyweight to withdraw from the tournament.
