JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- Eighth-ranked Mercyhurst came away with a 21-17 win in its first match of the Super Region I Duals hosted by Pitt-Johnstown. Michael Pollard and Fred Hale won back-to-back matches, at the 197 pounds and 285 pounds respectively, to carry the Lakers past Kutztown for the second consecutive year at the Sports Center on Friday night.

The Lakers move to 7-3 after the win against their regional foe while the Golden Bears drop to 3-4 on the season.

The Lakers garnered six individual victories in the match, including August Mizia's pin against Zach Marlatt. Mizia registered the pin at the 4:24 mark tallying his 19th win of the season.

Ryan Bohince beat Desmond Moore in the first bout of the night in a 7-5 decision. The 125-pounder is 19-11 on the season heading into the second day of action. Evan Yenolevich controlled much of the 133 pound match to overtake Kody Young in an 11-3 major decision. The loss snaps Young's three-match win streak.

Mercyhurst's Jeremy Landowski and Michael Griffith both came away with decision wins at the 141 pound and 149 pound classes respectively. Landowski beat Mitch Voelker in a 4-3 decision before Griffith earned his 12th win of the season by topping Leonard Drummond 5-4.

Kutztown went on to win three of the four next matches making the score 17-15 in favor of the Golden Bears. Pollard earned a decision win to put the Lakers up 18-15 as the match would lie in the hand of Hale for the second consecutive season.

He did not disappoint, beating Brandon Clark in an 8-4 decision marking his 20th win of the season to give the Lakers the 21-17 win.
