SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- No. 10 Springfield (Mass.) fought back with nine points in the last two bouts to defeat 30th-ranked TCNJ 24-18 on Sunday

At 165-pounds, Springfield junior Derrick Longo competed. Ranked 10th nationally as an individual, Longo pinned TCNJ freshman Ryan Riegert at 3:24. At the time, that tied the match at 12.

At 184-pounds, TCNJ senior Mike Denver returned the favor. Ranked No. 1 in the country, Denver pinned junior Andrew Balina at 4:04. At the time, that gave TCNJ an 18-15 lead.

That left it up to the final two bouts. Junior Jeremy Burns, ranked No. 3 in New England, first defeated junior Dan Brill 12-5. That tied it up at 18-18 from a team perspective.

It all came down to the final match, winner take all. Senior heavyweight John Gabordi, also ranked No. 3 in New England, had the upper hand almost right from the start, eventually pinning freshman Michael Larcamp in 1:53, providing the winning six-point margin.

Other winners for the Pride included sophomore Tom Casper at 125, freshman Eric Hamrick, ranked No. 3 in New England at 149, and junior Mike Fish, ranked No. 1 in New England at 174.

Missing from the SC line-up was junior Joe Grippi (injury), ranked No. 1 in New England and No. 8 in the nation at 141 pounds. SC had to forfeit at that weight class.
