DECORAH, Iowa -- In a battle between two nationally ranked teams, No. 3 Luther posted an 18-17 come-from-behind victory against No. 25 Cornell (Iowa).
The Norse trailed the Rams until the final match, when No. 3 Jayden DeVilbiss posted a 14-4 major decision against Aburough Abegesha to secure the one-point victory.
Cornell jumped out to a 10-0 lead, but wins by No. 7 Evan Obert (133) and Dakota Gray (141) pulled the Norse to within four points (6-10) after five bouts. Following a major decision by the Rams' No. 9 Trevor Engle, Luther posted four consecutive wins, that included three major decisions to secure the victory. Blake Letney (157) and No. 5 Garrett Bonte (165) both posted major decisions to level the score 14-14. The Rams Brett Hamm defeated Eric Moreno 4-2 in overtime, setting up the last match heroics by DeVilbiss.
The win gives Luther a dual-meet record of 2-1, while Cornell is now 5-2.
