Division II wrestling: Week 10 power rankings

Notre Dame College is the hottest team in wrestling at the moment.

Division II wrestling power rankings, Week 10:

1― Notre Dame College (Ohio): The top team in Division II showed why Wednesday might, dismantling Ashland to the tune of 37-3. The Falcons host ninth-ranked Lake Erie College on Sunday. Expect more of the same.

2 ― St. Cloud State: SCSU wrestles at Minnesota State-Moorhead and Northern State Friday and Saturday. The Huskies should improve to 10-1 barring anything crazy happening and should not be challenged until early February when they face Minnesota State-Mankato, Upper Iowa, and Augustana (S.D.) in back-to-back-to-back weeks. Heavyweight Austin Goergen (19-0) is one of the few unbeatens in DII.

3 ― Pittsburgh-Johnstown: After whipping Seton Hill (Pa.) Wednesday night, the Mountain Cats (10-1) host Gannon (Pa.) on Friday. UPJ will not be challenged until a Feb. 13 meeting with in-state foe Mercyhurst on home mats.

4 ― Maryville (Mo.): The Saints wrestle at Central Oklahoma on Friday. MU head coach Mike Denney goes for dual victory number 328 against a Broncho team that beat Newman (Kan.) Tuesday and will bring a nothing-to-lose attitude.

5 ― Wisconsin-Parkside: The Rangers (7-2) host DIII Wisconsin-Stevens Point this weekend, a break from a DII gauntlet that has included No. 10 Lindenwood, No. 12 Tiffin, No. 2 St. Cloud State, and No. 14 Findlay.

6 ― Nebraska-Kearney: UNK faces a good Ft. Hays State (Kan.) squad on the road Thursday night and is at Central Missouri on Saturday. Top-ranked seniors Daniel DeShazer (133) and Romero Cotton (197) have four combined NCAA titles … they need help if the Lopers are to move up this list.

7 ― Augustana College (S.D.): Sophomore 184-pounder Aero Amo (20-1) and the Vikings had a good weekend at the Ranger Duals, beating Tiffin, Findlay, McKendree, and Indianapolis to improve to 12-2 for the season. AC should get to 16-2 by the end of January.

T8 ― Upper Iowa: The Peacocks (10-1) followed up a strong showing at the National Duals with a victory over Minnesota-Moorhead. UIU is at Northern State (S.D) this Friday. Expect this Peacock team to score more than one-half point at the NCAA Championships.

T8 ― California Baptist: The Lancers, not at full strength, had a good showing at the Midwest Duals in Kearney last weekend, winning three duals but falling to No. 16 Western State (Colo.). A fun dual could be on tap Saturday when San Francisco State visits Riverside. If CBU gets healthy, a top 10 finish in March is in the cards.

Knocking on the door

Mercyhurst (Pa.), Minnesota State-Mankato, Lindenwood (Mo.), Lake Erie College (Ohio), Western State (Colo.)
