DII power rankings: SCSU, Wisc.-Parkside continue to lead field

Central Oklahoma moved up a spot to No. 3 in the latest power rankings.

There were few changes at the top of NCAA.com's latest power rankings, as SCSU continue to control that No. 1 spot. But lower down the list, teams continue to jostle for position.

Here are the DII Week 8 power rankings:

1 – St. Cloud State: The Huskies moved to 12-1 with a 51-0 whitewash of Division III St. John’s (Minn.) last week. SCSU has outscored its last three opponents by a combined score of 130-6. Head coach Steve Costanzo’s group hosts Minot State (S.D.) and a good Minnesota State-Mankato this weekend. The Mavericks (7-3) are coming off a win over Upper Iowa.

2 – Wisconsin-Parkside: Head coach Gregg Lewis’ squad beat Bellarmine (Ky.) and Indianapolis by a combined 77-14 in Louisville last Saturday. Earlier this season the Greyhounds beat UW-P on the Rangers’ home mat. The second meeting of 2016-17 resulted in the Rangers (10-2) winning the final six bouts in a 31-7 victory. UW-P hosts Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater on Wednesday and finishes its dual schedule Saturday against Truman State (Mo.) and Drury (Mo.)

3 – Central Oklahoma: The Bronchos remained unbeaten with a narrow 19-16 win over Lindenwood (Mo.) last Friday. UCO (16-0) got decisions from Greg Wilson (197) and Caleb Cotter (285) in the final two bouts to win a 23rd straight dual meet. UCO wrestles at Newman (Kan.) on Wednesday and finishes the regular season at Ft. Hays State (Kan.).

4 – McKendree (Ill.): The Bearcats outscored Truman State and Drury 86-6 last week to improve to 11-5. Head coach James Kisgen and MU face Lindenwood on Wednesday, then travel to this Saturday to dual Indianapolis and Bellarmine (Ky.).

5 – Mercyhurst (Pa.) – Andy Welton’s 34-second pin at 285 pounds highlighted the Lakers’ 29-14 win over East Stroudsburg (Pa.) last Saturday two days after MU beat West Liberty 41-4. The Lakers (9-3), winners of five straight, host Kutztown (Pa.) this Saturday.

6 – Nebraska-Kearney: UNK’s up-and-down dual season continued last week with a victory over Western State (Colo.) and a 22-21 loss to Colorado State-Pueblo. Destin McCauley (24-4) picked up his ninth pin of the season at 157 pounds and Kyle Bateman’s pin at 174 pounds tied the dual at 15, but CSU-Pueblo won the next two to secure the victory. UNK heavyweight Kevin Barrett (25-4) had his 14th pin of the season. The Lopers (14-6) host Central Missouri on Saturday.

7 – Maryville (Mo.): The Saints outscored in-state foes Drury and Truman State, 82-9, to move to 4-3 for the season. Head coach Mike Denney’s squad is at Indianapolis this Saturday and faces Bellarmine and Indianapolis.

T8 – Notre Dame College (Ohio): NDC’s limited dual schedule continued last Friday as the Falcons (4-2) beat West Liberty, 49-(-)1 in West Virginia. Juwon Edmond (157) had a 32-second pin, one of four Falcons to record a fall. NDC faces Division III John Carroll (Ohio) this Saturday.

T8 – Pittsburgh-Johnstown: Pat Pecora’s Mountain Cats are 11-2 after beating Wheeling Jesuit (W.V.) 19-18 on criteria last Friday. Top-ranked 157-pounder Cody Law (19-0) leads UPJ against in-state foe Millersville this Friday. UPJ’s only losses in 2016-17 are to St. Cloud State and Mercyhurst, both coming at the NWCA National Duals.

T8 – Upper Iowa: The Peacocks fell to 9-3 with a loss to Minnesota State-Mankato. UIU wrestles at Augustana (S.D.) on Sunday and host No. 1 SCSU on Feb. 9 in Fayette.

T8 – Indianapolis: Wisconsin-Parkside avenged a loss to the Greyhounds (12-6) earlier this season with a 31-7 win last Saturday in Louisville. McKendree and Maryville visit Indianapolis this Saturday for back-to-back duals. The remaining schedule also includes a match against Notre Dame College on Feb. 12 in St. Louis.

Knocking on the door:

Colorado State-Pueblo, Wheeling Jesuit (W.J.), Ashland (Ohio), California Baptist, Findlay (Ohio), Kutztown (Pa.), Minnesota State-Mankato, Augustana (S.D.)
